Whether you yammer, jabber, or blather… especially when you’re unhappy about something. It sounds like something out of Alice in Wonderland. But no matter which one of these words you use, such endless rambling chatter can be irritating enough to set your listeners’ teeth on edge.
Etymology:
Origin Of The Word Yammer
Yammer can be traced back to Middle English, where it takes the form of “yameren,” which means to make noise or cry out. It may also be influenced by similar words in other languages or dialects pertaining to noise or complaint. The roots may have an imitative origin, evoking the sound of a person whining. [1]
